ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Board of Directors of beWellnm, New Mexico’s Health Insurance Exchange named Linda Wedeen as Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Ms. Wedeen has been serving at beWellnm’s Senior Director of Communications, Marketing & Outreach and will be assuming the Interim CEO role later this month when current CEO, Amy Dowd vacates the position for a new job out of state. The Board Chairman also appointed an Executive Search Committee to guide the effort to select a new CEO.
“To ensure continuity of existing operations, the Board felt that the right solution during this time of transition was to appoint a member of the existing leadership team,” said Dr. JR Damron, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Linda’s leadership experience, both with the Exchange and in her prior roles, gave us the confidence we needed to ask her to lead beWellnm while the search committee initiatives the search process.”
A member of the beWellnm leadership team since 2014, Ms. Wedeen has been responsible for the Exchange’s communications, marketing and community outreach programs providing strategic direction and oversight of beWellnm’s efforts to raise awareness and promote enrollment. Following the close of the last open enrollment period, beWellnm successful connected nearly 55,000 New Mexicans with high quality, affordable coverage through the Exchange.
“I am honored to have been selected for the role of Interim CEO of beWellnm,” said Wedeen. “With just two months before the 2017 open enrollment begins, alongside the Board of Directors, the beWellnm leadership team and our partners around the state, we will continue our mission of expanding access to coverage for New Mexicans.”
Ms. Wedeen has more than 30 years’ experience in New Mexico including serving as the Executive Director of New Mexico Cancer Foundation, World Wide Executive Communications Manager for Hewlett Packard and Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing for First Community Bank.
Deeply dedicated to serving the communities of New Mexico, Ms. Wedeen has also served on the board of directors for nearly two dozen community groups including Quality New Mexico, Road Runner Food Bank, Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Central New Mexico, WESST Corp., the City of Albuquerque Indicators Progress Commission (Mayoral appointment), among others.
Executive Search Committee and Process for New CEO
Today, the Chairman of the Board also appointed an Executive Search Committee to organize the process for a new CEO. The Board has named the following Directors to the Committee: Director Dan Foley, Director and Superintendent of Insurance John Franchini, Director Patsy Romero, Director Terriane Everhart, and Director Eva Jean Fomalont serving as Committee Chair.
At this time, no other decisions about the search process have been decided. The committee is expected to provide updates during upcoming board meetings.
