Good health is the key to so many good things in life! Try these simple lifestyle changes to boost your health and happiness:
  1. Focus on eating right. Load up on fruits and veggies. Choose low-fat dairy, lean meats and fish and whole grains. Limit foods high in fat, sugar and salt.
  2. Get more exercise. Regular exercise helps prevent many types of health problems, including cardiovascular disease, falls and depression. Research shows that walking for 30 minutes a day can significantly improve your health. 
  3. Drink water. Do you drink six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day? Try replacing soda or other sweetened beverages with a glass of refreshing water instead. 
  4. Floss your teeth every day. Flossing helps reduce plaque buildup and keeps your gums healthy, which can help you avoid painful and expensive dental procedures. 
  5. Take breaks from sitting. Stand up, stretch and walk around. Park farther away, take the stairs, refill your water bottle, sit on a stability ball, talk to co-workers instead of emailing them, use a bathroom on another floor — whatever it takes to help you move more.
  6. Wear a helmet. Make sure everyone in your family protects their skull and brain with a helmet. Set a good example for your children by wearing a helmet yourself.
  7. Manage stress. Try healthy ways to relax and recharge, such as going for a walk, talking about your feelings, listening to soothing music, writing in a journal or watching a comedy.
  8. Get your zzzs. On average, adults need seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Getting enough sleep is important for your health.
  9. Avoid smoking. You've probably heard this one before, but it bears repeating. Smoking or using other tobacco products is one of the top risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease. If you smoke, talk with your doctor about options to help you quit if you smoke.
  10. Schedule your annual checkup. Your doctor is your partner in your overall health and well-being. Regular check-ups and health screenings can catch problems early, while they are most treatable.
