Health insurance covers the cost of emergency and routine medical care. With a beWellnm plan, you can keep seeing your Indian Health Service or Tribal Healthcare Center doctors, and you won’t be stuck with a big bill if you get sick or injured.

Native Americans can sign up for beWellnm plans year-round. See how our plans work with IHS or Tribal Healthcare Center coverage and how to find the best plan for you.

How beWellnm Works With IHS Coverage

Your beWellnm plan does not replace IHS or Tribal Health Care coverage. But getting insured can help your local clinic! When insurance pays IHS or Tribal Healthcare Centers for your doctor visits, IHS and Tribal healthcare Centers use that money to take care of your neighbors. Everybody wins!

Having a beWellnm plan expands your IHS and Tribal Healthcare Center coverage. Our plans pay for care when you travel. You can see doctors outside the IHS and Tribal Health Care service area. And all our no-cost to low-cost plans cover these 10 health benefits:

• Children’s dental and eye care
• Emergency care
• Hospital stays
• Lab services
• Maternity and newborn care
• Mental health and substance use services
• Outpatient care
• Prescriptions
• Rehab services and devices
• Well-check visits

How to Get No-Cost to Low-Cost Insurance

Native Americans may be eligible for subsidies to help pay for health insurance based on your tax household and annual gross income. Let’s start with cost-sharing plans. These can reduce your premiums, copays or deductibles to zero!

  • No-Cost Sharing Plans: You may qualify if your income is between 100% and 300% of the federal poverty line (FPL). With these plans:
    • You do not pay a copay, deductible or coinsurance at IHS or Tribal Healthcare Center
    • You do not need an IHS or Tribal Healthcare Center referral to see a doctor outside of IHS!
  • Limited Cost-Sharing Plans: You may qualify if your income is below 100% or above 300% of the FPL. With these plans:
    • You do not pay a copay, deductible or coinsurance to see IHS or Tribal Healthcare Center
    • You do need an IHS referral to avoid these fees for doctors outside IHS or Tribal Healthcare Centers.

Native Americans living in New Mexico may qualify for other premium assistance, such as:

  • New Mexico Premium Assistance: NMPA provides extra savings to reduce monthly premiums
  • Native American Premium Assistance: NAPA provides enhanced premium assistance, based on income, for members of federally recognized tribes.
  • Advanced Premium Tax Credit: APTC can lower monthly premiums when you purchase a plan on the Marketplace.
