BeWell is New Mexico’s Health Insurance Marketplace. “Marketplaces” are part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
BeWell is a free, state-provided service for all New Mexicans. BeWell provides free health insurance evaluations, letting New Mexicans see their health insurance options. It is the only place where you can get financial assistance to help lower the cost of health insurance.
BeWell is for people who can’t get health insurance from a job, Medicaid, or Medicare. This means people like small business owners, artists, gig workers, part-time workers, early retirees, and more, can get affordable health insurance.
Open enrollment, the time of the year when you can get insurance, is November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027. You can get insurance at any time of year if you have a major life event.

Having a health insurance plan through BeWell does not replace IHS or Tribal Health Care coverage. It supplements your IHS and Tribal Health Care Center coverage. Our plans pay for emergency care when you travel, and you can see providers outside the IHS and Tribal Health Care Center service area. Services include:
If you are Native American and a member of a federally recognized Tribe, you are can enroll at any time and may qualify for lower out-of-pocket costs.
Getting additional insurance can also help your local IHS clinic! When insurance pays IHS or Tribal Health Care Centers for your medical visits, IHS and Tribal Health Care Centers can use that money to take care of your neighbors.

Certified assisters can help you understand your options and enroll in a health insurance plan. They will not push you towards a specific plan or carrier.
We recommend you get free help from our certified assisters, but if you want to do it on your own we have step-by-step instructions and videos to guide you through the application and enrollment portal.
