Once you have created an account you can begin your coverage application.
Please note that shopping for plans and creating an account are not the same as applying for coverage. You must complete the application to receive your coverage determination from BeWell.
The length of the application is determined by your answers. A person with many dependents and special circumstances will take longer to fill out the application than a single person with no dependents. This application typically takes between 1 – 2 hours to complete for a single applicant.
The application has five major sections:
- Start Your Application
- Family and Household
- Income Information
- Additional Information
- Review and Sign
The section you are on will be highlighted light blue on the left side panel. You can save and exit the application at any time and return to it later.
Before You Get Started
Be sure to have all information available that you might need for everyone applying for coverage. This includes things like full names, addresses, social security numbers, dates of birth, tax and income documents, and immigration documentation if applicable.
To begin your application, log into your account and click “Start New Application” under Next Steps on your Dashboard.
Identity Verification
The first step before accessing the application is verifying your identity. You will be asked to provide your address, personal information, and set up security questions to ensure the safety and security of your application. For more details on this read our article on “How to Verify My Identity.”
Start Your Application
Once you have verified your identity you will enter the “Start Your Application” section. This first section asks you to agree to terms of use and verify your information.
In the “About Your Household” subsection, you can add any household members who are also seeking coverage through this application by clicking “Add Person”. At least one person must be seeking coverage to continue with the application.
After adding all members, selecting your relationship to them, and reviewing the information for accuracy, you can move forward to the Family and Household section.
Family and Household
In the Family and Household section, you will now be asked to provide more detailed personal and demographic information about each applicant. You are not required to provide racial or ethnic information.
If you select that you are pregnant, please note that the fetus is counted as a person for coverage. This increases the number of applicants for your household and may make you eligible for additional financial aid or subsidies.
Please take time to review and confirm all of the information is accurate before moving to the next section.
Income Information
In this section you will need income information such as paystubs or W-2 forms to verify the amount of income earned for each household member. You will be asked to estimate your income for the whole year and list any deductions such as student loan payments or alimony.
Additional Information
This section asks questions related to health insurance specifically. It will check if you have been offered insurance through a job, a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), have been denied for Medicaid, or are running out of coverage soon.
BeWell is a Single Application State, meaning that by filling out our application, you can select for this application to also be sent to Medicaid if you are eligible. You can also get help paying for past or future medical expenses.
The question about Reconciliation of APTC is optional. If you have never received Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC) before, you can skip this question or select “I have not received APTC”.
Review and Sign
Finally, you can review and sign your application. You will be shown a screen with all of the information you previously entered. Please look it over and verify that everything is correct. This is your last chance to make edits before submitting your application.
Once you have reviewed your information you will be taken to a page of final questions where you will confirm if anyone on your application has been incarcerated, provide consent for auto renewal, etc…
Please read each of these boxes before agreeing. It is important that you are aware of the terms you are agreeing to.
At the bottom after you have reviewed these options, there is a box to provide your electronic signature. Please type your name into the box and select “Submit Application” to complete your application.
You will know your application was successfully submitted when you are taken back to your Dashboard and receive this message.
You may always go back and edit your application from your dashboard. See our article on how to edit your application.
And that’s it! You have successfully completed your BeWell application.
