BeWell thanks Gov. Lujan Grisham and our NM Legislators for their commitment to affordable, reliable health insurance. The loss of enhanced federal tax credits will be covered with state subsidies, saving some customers thousands for 2026. Thank you, state leaders!

BeWell is the only place where you can qualify for subsidies to lower the cost of your monthly health insurance premiums. In fact, 50 percent of eligible New Mexicans pay $10 or less per month.
Use our Anonymous Shopping Tool to find out how much assistance you qualify for and what your monthly cost will be.
The Easy Enrollment program allows you to check a box on your state income tax form to see if you qualify for low-cost or free health insurance through Medicaid or BeWell. If you qualify, you can enroll immediately through a simplified process. Look for it when you complete your tax forms.
When you qualify for a premium tax credit, you can choose to use all, some or none of it in advance to lower the monthly cost of your premium. When you take your premium tax credit in advance, it is referred to as an Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC).
Alternatively, you can choose to pay the full price of your premium each month and claim your premium tax credit when you file your taxes, which may result in you getting a refund.
The amount of your tax credit is based on the income estimate and household information you put on your BeWell application.
Tax credits are based on annual household income, which is an estimate of the yearly income for all household members. View our FPL chart to see what your household income may be eligible for.
It is normal for the monthly health insurance premium costs to change each year. The monthly health insurance premium you pay can increase or decrease for several reasons, such as if the carrier updates the plan for the new plan year, which metal level plan (Bronze, Silver, Platinum, Turquoise and Clear Cost) you chose and the cost of the Second-Lowest Cost Silver Plan (SLCSP) in your area.
You may be wondering if you got the wrong eligibility from BeWell. Every year, the amount of your APTC will change based on the cost of the SLCSP, which can affect how much your monthly health insurance premium costs. Shop during the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) to compare health insurance plans by important details such as monthly cost, copayment and deductible.
The amounts of APTC you may be eligible for are also changing at the federal level. In 2021, the American Rescue Plan was enacted, which increased the amounts of APTC people could receive for their coverage through marketplaces like BeWell. This law also expanded cost savings to include people with household income over 400% of the FPL. These tax credit enhancements were extended in 2022 through the Inflation Reduction Act, but they’re set to expire at the end of 2025. If Congress does not extend them again or make them permanent, you may see your premium costs go up starting in 2026.
The Native American Premium Assistance (NAPA) program provides enhanced premium assistance for Native Americans who are members of a federally recognized Tribe. NAPA provides:

Health plans are grouped into levels on the Marketplace. These levels include Bronze, Silver and Gold. You can also find Turquoise and Clear Cost plans at each of these levels for more savings if you qualify. Learn more on the metal levels here. Browse the health plan levels.
When you file your taxes, you may end up owing money if you got too much Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC) assistance, based on your final income for the tax year.
When you complete Form 8962 for your taxes, you will find out if and how much you may owe. On the other hand, if you are entitled to a larger tax credit than you got in advance, you will get the full amount as part of your income tax refund.
You can change the amount of APTC being applied through your BeWell account. See how to adjust tax credit amount.
