Health insurance plans you enroll in through BeWell can cover individuals or families, including children. Newborns to adult children through age 26 can be covered under your health insurance plan.
If you are eligible for Medicaid, your children can be covered under Medicaid, too.
Having a baby or adopting a child is a Qualifying Life Event (QLE). That means you can change your health insurance plan or enroll in a new one outside of the Open Enrollment Period (OEP). Enrolling outside of OEP is called a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). You will have 60 days from the date of the QLE to make a change to your health insurance plan through BeWell or enroll in a new one.
You can add your newborn to your existing coverage or enroll them in their own coverage. You and your newborn may also qualify for financial assistance such as the Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC) to help pay for your monthly health insurance premiums.
