BeWell helps New Mexicans connect to the health insurance coverage that best meets their needs and budget. You have two options to apply.
Apply Through BeWell
Log in to your BeWell account. You will need to create an account first. From there, fill out an application
BeWell will check whether you qualify for financial savings to lower out-of-pocket costs for health care. We are the only place where New Mexicans can get subsidies, like Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC), to cover the cost of monthly health insurance premiums. If you might be eligible for Medicaid, we will automatically send your application to the New Mexico Health Care Authority.
If you are not sure whether you will qualify for coverage through BeWell, use our online tool to estimate your eligibility. You can also use it to browse health insurance plans.
Apply Through the New Mexico Health Care Authority
Visit the Health Care Authority website. Create an account or sign in with an existing account. Then fill out the application.
New Mexico is a single application state. That means if you apply through the Health Care Authority (HCA) and are found to not be eligible for Medicaid, the Health Care Authority automatically sends your application to BeWell. The same application sharing process happens from BeWell to HCA if you apply through BeWell but are eligible for Medicaid.
If you are denied eligibility for Medicaid after applying for health insurance coverage through BeWell’s during an Open Enrollment Period (OEP), don’t worry. This situation is a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) that opens a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
During mostan SEPs, you have 60 days to enroll in a health insurance plan through BeWell. Your coverage will start the first of the next month after you pay your first month’s health insurance premium. If you need a different start date for your health insurance coverage, call BeWell to discuss your options.
