If you are unemployed, you may be able to get an affordable health insurance plan through BeWell. Based on your income, household size and other factors, you may also be eligible for free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid.
New Mexico is a single application state for health coverage. That means when you apply for affordable health insurance through BeWell, you will also find out if you qualify for:
- Medicaid
- Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC) to help cover your monthly health insurance premiums
- Turquoise Plans to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses for health care, such as deductibles, co-payments and co-insurance
- New Mexico Premium Assistance to help reduce your costs
If your employer does not offer you affordable health insurance, you may qualify for coverage through BeWell. You can apply during the Open Enrollment Period (OEP), which is November 1 through January 15.
If you are eligible to get unemployment insurance for at least one week, you may be eligible for discounts for health insurance plan expenses. You may need to self-attest to unemployment insurance eligibility in your BeWell application. This means you will need to sign a document stating you were eligible for unemployment if you cannot provide other proof. A household where only the dependent child is eligible for unemployment insurance should not self-attest to eligibility for unemployment insurance.
After you finish your BeWell application, you will get an Eligibility Determination Notice in your BeWell secure inbox outlining your qualified coverage and savings.
